Auckland petrol station won't sell cigarettes, offers free chocolate fish instead

A petrol station is saying no to selling tobacco and instead handing out free chocolate fish to customers wanting cigarettes.

Owners Brett and Julie Peachey saw many friends, customers and community members perish as a consequence of smoking during 12 years of living in Kaukapakapa, north Auckland, and running fish and chip shop Shark 'n' Tatties.

So when they opened a Gull station on Good Friday, after the town had been without petrol for nine years, the couple vowed to not sell cigarettes or tobacco, a first for Gull stations in New Zealand.
